My artwork shows contemporary life as it is without emphasising the beautiful. I am intrigued by everyday objects that are not primarily associated with attractiveness. I concentrate on objects which are familiar but often overlooked.
I paint from my perspective as a young female living in Australia in the early 21st century. My work is very personal as I paint things from my immediate environment such as my rubbish, invaluable items, what I eat and drink and the unnecessary objects which I buy. For this reason I consider my paintings to be more revealing than a traditional self portrait.
I am a strong believer in needing the rain to appreciate the sunshine. There is a benefit to everything and feel I blessed to be able to see that. I do not paint what is obviously beautiful however I do not paint from a negative point of view. I accept that life is out of my control so instead of focusing on the irrepressible my art embraces positive thinking.
I work with oil paints to create beautiful and gestural imagery. I use a direct application of paint, working wet into wet, making spontaneous brush marks.
